Geography

Through our Geography curriculum at Abbotswood, we aim to inspire a lifelong curiosity and fascination in the world and its people. Our integrated, topic-based approach ensures that Geography is woven into a rich learning journey that provides children with a context, purpose and real audience. Each unit is driven by a ‘Big Geographical Question’ that encourages pupils to think critically, explore diverse global perspectives and develop the mindset of a ‘geographer’.

Children are encouraged to ask questions, weigh evidence and think creatively about the world around them. Fieldwork is an essential part of our curriculum, giving children the opportunity to explore their local area and compare it with other regions of the world. This hands-on learning experience helps children develop valuable skills and a deeper understanding of Geography in a real-world context. We aim to build resourceful, active citizens who are equipped with the confidence and skills to make informed decisions and contribute positively to their communities and the world around them. By fostering critical thinking and a global perspective, we prepare our pupils to engage thoughtfully with the world and its challenges.
