Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is an allocation of funding that is given to us by the government to support children who may be vulnerable to under achievement and may be considered disadvantaged.

The amount we receive is based upon the number of children that we have who are entitled to Free School Meals, who are Children In Care or are Formerly Looked After Children.

As a school, we have a responsibility to report on the progress of children receiving Pupil Premium funding, demonstrate how we are using the Pupil Premium Grant and the impact it is having on children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Our Aim

At Abbotswood Junior School, we are determined to ensure that our children are given every chance to realise their full potential. Our intention is that all pupils, irrespective of their background or the challenges they face, make good progress and achieve high attainment across all subject areas.

Pupil Premium spending is most effective when used across three areas:

  • High-quality teaching

  • Targeted academic support, such as interventions

  • Wider strategies, such as enrichment opportunities, social and emotional support and support with behaviour and attendance

How do we spend the Pupil Premium grant?

This is detailed in our Pupil Premium Strategy Statement.

We also have a Pupil Premium Policy.

How can you check whether your child is eligible for Pupil Premium funding?

Pupil Premium is a really good opportunity for eligible parents to get even more support for their children in schools. For more information about free meals in Hampshire, please contact the office.

If you think your child may be eligible for free school meals, even if you don't want your child to eat school meals, please call into the office to collect a claim form.
