Curriculum mapping ensures there is sequential, layered knowledge and skill acquisition so that children successfully ‘learn’ the curriculum:
Long and Medium Term Overviews for each subject have been created by Subject Leaders to show the sequence and order of what children are expected to know in each year group, including key vocabulary.
Medium Term Overviews map out the ‘Essential Knowledge’ and skills we want the children to acquire during their time with us.
These are supported by Learning Strand Progression documents which detail the layers underpinning the units/topics, showing how children get better at the subject and how the learning progresses and deepens.
Each subject curriculum is designed around the characteristics of learning to ensure children develop the knowledge and skills they need to become young ‘experts’ in each subject area (historians, scientists, musicians etc.). By knowing, not just what we know, but also how that knowledge is developed, children become more skilled in thinking, questioning, and applying their learning in meaningful ways.
