“Children don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
Abbotswood Junior School has been at the heart of the Totton community since the 1930s, with many of our pupils following in the footsteps of their parents and grandparents. Although a large school with over 600 children, we are justifyingly proud of Abbotswood's friendly, community atmosphere.
To tell you a little about myself - I am an experienced Headteacher, entering my 13th year at Abbotswood (and 16th as a Headteacher). Previously, I worked and taught in a range of schools in Suffolk, Southampton and Hampshire. I have two daughters who are both in their 20s (one of whom is a teacher). On a personal note, sport is, and has always been, my passion. This is reflected in the wide range of largely free sporting opportunities available to the children at Abbotswood.
Forming strong relationships between everyone at the school is the most important thing we do. We want our children to, not only achieve great academic success, but be well-rounded, thriving young people ready for the next stage in their lives.
Finally, my mantra is "Talent is everywhere but opportunity isn't".
Therefore, as a Headteacher, I am determined to provide as many diverse opportunities and experiences for our children as possible.
“Teachers who put relationships first don’t just have students for one year. They have children that view them as ‘their’ teacher for life."
