At Abbotswood, our Maths curriculum is designed to inspire our children to think mathematically. Carefully sequenced lessons support children to build and develop their conceptual understanding of Maths, ensuring children develop fluency in the fundamentals of mathematics which enables them to reason and problem solve successfully. Regular opportunities for children to revisit core knowledge supports them to confidently apply their skills to a range of problem solving contexts. Children who grasp mathematical concepts quickly are given rich problems to extend their knowledge and understanding, encouraging them to ‘dive deeper’ into mathematical concepts with more sophisticated reasoning. Our AFL driven approach to teaching and learning recognises that every child has different needs and must be challenged or supported at the earliest opportunity to help them become confident and fluent mathematicians.
